With a view to freeing Barisal again, Major Jalil, along with MP Nurul Islam Manjur and Lt. Naser, started towards Bangladesh from Shamshernagar of India, with 40 soldiers and abundant arms in two launches. As soon as those two launches reached near the strip of a sandy land, named Gabura, which was out of the river bed on the banks of the river Kapataksha, the Pakistani soldiers attacked with their gunboats. In this sudden attack, 26 soldiers including MP Mahiuddin and Advocate Sardar Jalal were captured by the Pakistani soldiers and both the launches with arms and ammunitions were destroyed.

At the Ramgarh border, a heavy fight took place between the Pakistani forces and the freedom fighters.

The benevolent supporters of the freedom fighters SDO Abdur Razzak, Deputy Magistrate Mijanur Rahman and MDPO Faizur Rahman of Pirozpur were arrested by the Pakistani forces with assistance of the traitors.

At Nania in Sylhet, 26 innocent people were killed as a result of monstrous torture by the barbaric Pakistani forces.

At a conference held at Geneva, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan said, “The Indian government has called for aid and support for the refugees coming from East Pakistan to India. The problems created in India by the refugees due to the political issues of East Pakistan are rational. In the provinces of India, countless refugees are living in distress. We are hoping for a permanent solution to this.” He also said, “We want normal situation to be restored in East Pakistan so that no more refugees come to India and the others go back to their country.”

At the Commons conference, British Prime Minister Edward Heath said, “The British government is presuming that the problems of the East-Pakistani refugees in India are gradually growing more difficult. Everyday the number of the refugees is increasing by 20 thousands. I think a team of international vigilantes should be sent to Dhaka to observe the current situation.”

The former ambassador of the United States Chester Boles said in an interview with The New York Times, “Without knowing against whom and for what purpose the arms supplied by us will be used, it is not wise to supply arms to the friendly countries. I think two actions should be taken immediately. Firstly, we should protest strongly against Pakistan government for misusing the American military equipments and stop aiding them. Secondly, we should call a meeting of the Security Council to take proper actions by discussing peace violation in Asia. It is very obvious that the peace in Asia is at stake. The war of East Pakistan isn’t merely an ‘internal affair’. The UN has certain obligations to settle the ‘internal problem’ caused by the armed minorities trying to overpower the huge majority.”

At Dhamrai in Dhaka, the anti-independence activists formed a 108-member peace committee with Mozammel Haque as the chairman and Shamser Ali as the secretary.

Pan Malaysia Islamic Party presented a memorandum to the Secretary-General of the United Nations U Thant, condemning India for intervening with the internal affairs of Pakistan.
